Pirasole-containing polymeric sorbents for gold and silverextraction from cyanide solutions

The results of investigation for giving hydrophilic properties topyrasole-containing sorbents in cyanide media and improvement of theircapacitive parameters in relation to precious metals are given. It is foundthat an additive of triethanolamine or trimethylamine in amounts of as much as30 % (relatively to 3(5)-methylpyrasole) favorably affects the capacitivecharacteristics of the sorbents on the base of styrenedivinylbenzene and3(5)-methylpyrasole. Introduction of deprotonating additives into reactionmixture in synthesizing SDP-d grade corbent is shown to improve its sorptioncapacity by 20–25 % in silver in extracting from AgNO3 solution (thenumber of functional resin groups increases accordingly). Microporous SDDP-dgrade sorbent with increase content of 3(5)-methylpyrasole groups has beenproduced. Comparison of synthesized resin samples in sorbing from cyanidesolutions has been carried out against high contents of Cu and Zn in theinitial solutions. Au, Ag, Cu, Zn sorption isotherms over SDDP-d resin fromcyanide solutions were recorded and the sequence of sorption capacity: Au >Ag > Zn > Cu was determined.

On causes of zirconium sub-recovery in case of acidic processing of Lovozersk eudialyte concentrate

The chemical and mineralogical compositions of insoluble residuesresulted from acid decomposition of eudialyte concentrate have beeninvestigated. It has been established that one of the reasons for insufficientzirconium extraction is the existence of acid-resistant zirconium minerals(vadeite and altered eudialyte), which are, apparently, the products of naturalhydrothermal alteration of common eudialyte. Another reason is that coarsegrains are coated by silica preventing acid diffusion.

Key words: eudialyte, acid decomposition.

Production of finely-dispersed powder gadolinium hydroxide

Finely-dispersed gadolinium hydroxide powders have been produced bychemical deposition (dispergating). The effects of different factors on thepowder characteristics: dispersiveness, morphology, and chemical compositionhave been found. The dependence of indicated parameters is established on thecharacter of gadolinium salt anion, concentration and acidity of its solution, precipitation agent concentration, and deposition pH. Optimum results areobserved in using diluted gadolinium chloride solutions and 5–10 wt. % of NH3solution as a precipitation agent.

Key words: gadolinium hydroxide, chemical deposition, chlorohydric acid, precipitation agent, concentration, powders, dispersiveness, morphology.

Current-less diffusion saturation of nickel by gadolinium in LiCl–KCl–GdCl3 melt

Kinetic characteristics of alloy-formation during diffusionsaturation of nickel by gadolinium in melted LiCl–KCl–GdCl3 mixturehave been determined experimentally. The results of chemical, micro-X-rayspectrum, and X-ray phase analyses have shown the formation of intermetalliccompounds being Laves phase of GdNi2 composition in the surfacelayer of the alloys during currentless transfer. The coefficients of reactiondiffusion and activation energy are calculated for GdNi2 compound.

Investigation of thermal-physical properties and thermal stability of shell molds on the basis of quarts sand and ashes from heat-electric generating plants for casting by the lost-wax process

Having low thermal-physical and thermal properties, quartz mold isthe primary source of reject in casting by the lost-wax process, therefore itis necessary to manufacture shell molds from alternative material that haslower linear expansion and higher heat conductivity. Analysis ofthermal-physical properties and thermal resistance shows the ceramic shells, where ashes from heat-electric generating plants are used as dusting, to bemost thermally stable, and they can be recommended for pouring without supportmaterial. Because ashes from heat-electric generating plants are productionwaste, this can affect the cost of shell molds, being particularly actual in theperiod when the economic crisis has not been overcome.

Key words: heat conductivity, thermalresistance, shell, dusting, linear expansion, quartz sand, ashes ofheat-electric generating plants, casting by the lost-wax process.
