History of Journal «Izvestiya Vuzov. Tsvetnaya Metallurgiya»

(Proceedings of Higher Schools. Nonferrous Metallurgy)

Editorial Stuff of Journal «Izvestiya Vuzov. Tsvetnaya Metallurgiya»  ( Proceedings of Higher Schools. Nonferrous Metallugry), the first number of which was issued in 1958, was founded by the initiative of leading metallurgist scientists Ageenkov Vasilii Gordeevich and Zhukovskii Evgenii Ivanovich on the basis of the North-Caucasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SKGMI, North Ossetia, Ordzhonikidze; starting from 1990 – Vladikavkaz). Before this time, leading journals in the field of metallurgy of nonferrous metals were “Tsvetnye metally” (Nonferrous Metals) and bulletin “Tsvetnaya metallurgiya” (Nonferrous Metallurgy), in which correspondingly scientific and technological articles were published. Thus, the collaborators of mining and smelting higher schools received a specialized publication to represent their scientific works.

In 1958–1994, Journal was published at SKGMI. Editorial Stuff at the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys, which was headed by Dr. Sci. (Eng.), Prof. N.N. Khavskii, while its deputies (1995–2001) had become Dr. Sci. (Eng.), Prof. I.I. Novikov (MISiS) and Dr. Sci. (Eng.), Prof. M.I. Alkatsev (SKGMI), was formed in 1995. Starting from this instant to 2000, two Editorial Stuffs– bothMoscowand Vladikavkaz ones – worked at Journal. The first “joint” number of renewed Journal was issued in July 1995. The circle of reported scientific sections was broadened. New rubrics appeared:

– Foundry;

– Pressure Treatment of Metals;

– Powder Materials and Coatings;

– Corrosion and Protection of Metals;

– Technology of Semiconductor Materials;

– Metallurgical Heat Engineering and Environmental Protection;

– History of Metallurgy;

– Higher Metallurgical Education.

Starting from 2000, Editorial Staff in Vladikavkaz transferred the authorities to MISiS. Starting from this instant and until now, Editorial Stuff is heated by Dr. Sci. (Eng.), Prof. E.A. Levashov; Cand. Sci. (Eng.), Prof. N.N. Rakova was Deputy Editor in 2002–2014, and Dr. Sci. (Eng.), Prof. V.A. Ignatkina has become Deputy Editor in2015. A.A. Kudinova and O.V. Sosnina are Leading Editors of Journal starting from the day of its foundation inMoscow (1995).

For recent years, the quality of articles published in Journal substantially increased both due to the novelty of proposed ideas and due to the use of mathematical methods of analysis of studied processes. A positive role played by specialists from other countries included into the composition of Editorial Board should be also mentioned.
